Dalwhinnie is one of the highest distilleries in Scotland at 1164 feet above sea level. The name Dalwhinnie is derived from the Gaelic word Dail-coinneeamh, which means meeting place, referring to the meeting of ancient cattle drovers' routes through the mountains.
Winter's gold is made from spirit distilled only between October and March. The theory being, that the colder temperature of the copper stills during the winter months intensifies the character of the whisky.
