Given the success and cult-like fan base that Ardbeg has recently enjoyed, it is almost impossible to imagine that the distillery was closed, on and off, for 15 years until it was purchased by Glenmorangie. Sitting on the southern coastline, the current distillery was founded in 1815, the original having been destroyed by excise men. The Ardbeg spirit still is fitted with a purifier which many believe accounts for its fruity, zesty character.
Contained within an obelisk somewhat reminiscent of that from 2001: A Space odyssey (perhaps not surprising, as Ardbeg is the only Scottish whisky to have gone to space!), this bottling is proudly displayed in a beautiful glass museum case.
A very rare vatting of two exceptionally old casks, it is accompanied by a mini and a cleaning kit; so that you might have your whisky and drink it, whilst keeping it in pristine condition at the same time!
