Celebrating the occasion of the first reigning monarchs to visit Canada in 1939, Crown Royal was crafted to welcome the arrival of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth to the North American shores. More than 600 blends were trialled before the blenders and the president of Seagram, Samuel Bronfman were happy with the result and presented the whisky in classy decanters with a velvet-style bag coloured a royal purple with gold stitching. What became known as Crown Royal was presented to the King and Queen and their train was supposedly packed with ten cases of the blend. The notion of the exclusivity of Crown Royal was added to by the fact it was not available outside of Canada until the 1960s.
The XR release is made with the last remaining batch of rare whiskies from the Waterloo Distillery in Ontario.
