Established in Aberdeen in 1801 as a grocery and spirits merchant by John Forrest, the early stage of Chivas Brothers was taken over by William Edward and James Chivas in 1838. After the growing success of the company during the early 18th century, Canadian drinks business, the Seagram Company bought Chivas Brothers and gradually added distilleries to its list. In 2001, Pernod took control after the takeover of Seagram and Chivas Brothers has now become the second largest Scotch whisky company in the world after Diageo.
They are perhaps best known for the Chivas Regal luxury blend - dating back to 1909 - and the Ballantine's blend but the company also markets a huge range of single malts from the various distilleries it presides over.
A Highland single malt whisky selected for the upper House of the British Parliament, the House of Lords.
