Lot number: 106-02677
Winning bid: £170
Matured in the scenic highlands of Quetzaltenango, Guatemala in the 'House Above the Clouds' - 2,300m above sea level to produce a smooth spirit by avoiding evaporation - this rum was named for the 100th anniversary of the foundation of the town of Zacapa in 1976. Chemist Dr. Alejandro Burgaleta used these special blending and aging techniques for long-aged rums to create a unique spirit. The early bottles come in a Mayan woven straw-like casing made of palm leaves called a petate with newer ones featuring a smaller band around the bottle, while the XO releases come in stylish decanters.
