Barton 1792 Distillery was founded in 1879 in the home of bourbon, Bardstown, Kentucky with the numerical name referring to the year the state was established as the 15th in America. Having previously been called Ridgewood Reserve 1792 before Brown-Forman sued for trademark infringement, this American whiskey is a classy spirit first produced by two Chicago gentlemen, Oscar Getz and Lester Abelson. In 2009, Barton was sold to the Sazerac Company who are responsible for the running of numerous distilleries including the juggernaut that is Buffalo Trace.
As well as their recognisable 1792 bottlings, Barton are known for Kentucky Tavern, Very Old Barton bourbons, Fleischmann's blended American whiskey and vodka, not to mention Highland Mist and Inver House on this side of the pond.
