This special decanter of Old Fitzgerald was released to commemorate the USS Constitution, an iconic war ship of the fledgling US navy, during the revolutionary war. The nickname "Old Ironsides" was adopted after a conflict with the British frigate Guerriere in 1812. The story goes, the two ships engaged around 750 miles off the coast of Massachusetts. After exchanging cannon fire, it became clear that the Constitution had endured almost no damage, prompting one of her crewmen to cheer, "Huzza, her sides are made of iron!"
This lot represents a rare opportunity to obtain one of these wonderfully scarce decanters, bottled at the famous Stitzel-Weller distillery in Kentucky.
