Gomes Madeira 1839 Sercial Solera
Lot number: 0570784
Winning bid: £350
Only a couple of decades shy of being two centuries old... hailing from 1839, a year in which the first photograph of the moon was taken, and the very first game of baseball was played in the USA. If you believe in respecting your elders then this rare old bottle deserves your utmost. Madeiras are more delicate than Ports, and often more highly regarded by sommeliers in Portugal - this one is made from the Sercial grape, which is the last Madeira variety to be harvested, and typically produces slightly sweet wines with a bracing acidity. This fortified wine would have started life relatively pale in colour and slowly darkened to a tawny amber over the decades.
No ABV/Volume stated.
Please examine the images of the bottle, any packaging and labels carefully and satisfy yourself as to their condition before making a bid.
