The 80th Auction

We're feeling a spot festive here at Scotch Whisky Auctions, with Christmas looming large on the horizon. If you haven't started your Christmas shopping yet, fear not, because our epic 80th auction is here, full of tasty treats, any of which would make a great gift for your nearest and dearest, or indeed yourself.

As always, there's something for everyone in this month's auction, and I think I speak for everyone at SWA when I say that none of us would be disappointed to find this Glenfarclas 60 Year Old under the tree on Christmas morning (worth a thought if you were struggling to think of what to get us). When you consider the ease with which Glenfarclas can churn out their excellent 40 year old (and with little more pomp and circumstance than their entry level 10 year old), the lengths they've gone to in creating the presentation case and decanter for this expression suggests they feel it's a bit special.

If one seriously mature Speysider wasn't enough, there's another Macallan 55 Year Old Lalique up for grabs this month (yes, really!!). There really isn't anything we can say about this that hasn't already been said. It is, quite simply, astounding. It's in good company too, with many a mouth watering Macallan up for grabs, not least of which is this stunning example distilled in 1952. Or for something a little bit more modern, there's the Macallan Cask 888. You lucky people.

While last month was noteworthy for being the first appearance of the legendary Bowmore Gold 1964 in our humble auction, this month offers another chance to pick one up. That's right, there's one more! Not to mention a whole host of Islay treats for you peat freaks, like this sleek Laphroaig Savoy or this stylish Bunnahabain 35 Year Old that forms a part of La Maison Du Whisky's Artist series.

Of course, lost distilleries feature prominently, with the usual suspect from Port Ellen and Brora doing their best to hog the limelight. If you can see past them though, there are plenty of other gems, like this lovely, heavily sherried, Glenury Royal 50 Year Old, distilled in 1953, and not often seen at auction. Or this Single Grain from the now silent Port Dundas Distillery, that formed part of Diageo's 2017 annual releases, and is the oldest expression so far released from the distillery, at 52 years old.

There are plenty of Japanese whiskies to get excited about too. Amongst them is this Karuizawa 45 Year Old that was distilled in 1968. Limited to just 137 bottles worldwide, it's no surprise that this is the first time we've seen it here at SWA. And as if that wasn't enough, there are a host of Hanyus and Hakushus, as well as some exciting new releases from Yamazaki.
