Lot number: 089-6031
Winning bid: £520
Dalmore distillery was used as a deep-sea mine production centre by the Royal Navy between 1917 and 1920. After the navy departed, the distillery was left in tatters, and after a long compensation battle, involving the House of Lords, the distillery was brought back online. Now Dalmore, under the stewardship of Richard Paterson, presents itself as a luxury brand, with some of its bottlings among the most expensive in the world.
Created by Master Distiller Richard Patterson during his 50th year working in the whisky industry, the Quintessence combines his passion for whisky and fine wine. The maestro travelled to California to select the five different red wine casks used in this expression, and after an initial maturation in first fill Bourbon wood, the spirit was "finessed" for five years in the wine casks before being married together prior to bottling.
This expression is so quintessentially Richard Paterson, we're surprised the bottle isn't sporting a moustache.
