Springbank 11 Year Old for First Annual Auction of the Ambassadors Collection 2018 with Cadenhead's Warehouse Tasting Voucher
Lot number: 000-0029
Winning bid: £2,200
For a period, Campbeltown was the undisputed Whisky Capital of the World, boasting over 30 distilleries operating simultaneously at its peak. Locally available peat, barley and coal, coupled with a quick steamship service to Glasgow meant this thriving industry lasted into the early 20th Century. Alas; ultimately (and perhaps inevitably) it proved unsustainable, and by 1935 the bubble had well and truly burst, with only Springbank and Glen Scotia distilleries remaining.
The family owned Springbank is unique in that it remains the only distillery in Scotland where 100% of the production process is carried out on site, and while it produces three distinct styles (in Springbank, Longrow, and Hazelburn), its eponymous Springbank expression still accounts for the lion's share of production. A medium peated, two and a half times distilled spirit, Springbank is complex, robust and never boring!
This bottle set the bar high. Labelled for the auction and the only one in existence, this is now one of the rarest Springbank whiskies in the world. This bottle was kindly donated by Ronan Currie from Springbank and comes with a Cadenhead's Warehouse Tasting voucher.
