The 106th Auction

A very warm welcome to our new year auction. Happy Chinese New Year and a toast to the Bard! We have a plentiful stock of winter warmers that will hopefully cheer your January blues up ‘Owre a glass o’ whisky.’

Rolling in first is a Highland Park 1964 50 Year Old with crystal and silver encased decanter. The delightful non-chillfiltered spirit was born from two Spanish oak, sherry seasoned hogsheads which were hand-filled to produce a yielding of just 274 bottles. Bring in the new lunar year with lucky bottle number 8! The whisky and decanter sit in a solid oak box made by Scottish master craftsman John Galvin. Galvin’s great craftsmanship also designed the Bowmore 1964 50 Year Old. This man can fair rock up a bit of oak.

Talking of 50 year old extremely rare whisky, this month also brings us a Macallan 50 Year Old Lalique - Six Pillars Collection. This is part of the 6 decanters released over an 11 year period. Macallan have teamed up with French crystal specialists Lalique in order to provide a vessel that befits a whisky of such pedigree. This handcrafted decanter is inspired by their exceptional oak casks and was released in just 470 bottles.

Staying around the Speyside region we also have in a Glenfiddich Ultimate 38 Year Old. A hand-blown lead crystal decanter encases the precious liquid inside. No expense spared here as the decanter is lavishly inlaid with 24 carat gold, creating a simple but striking design. Each decanter is individually numbered and comes with a crystal stopper. It was for the Chinese market after all so bring in the Year of the Rat with a fantastic fiddy malt.

Now let’s bring your attention to an old spirit from the past and introduce a Killyloch 1967 36 Year Old. Killyloch whisky was distilled alongside Glenflagler within the Moffat grain distillery. The whisky got its name from a mistake when labeling the casks; it was originally going to be called Lillyloch after its water source, however the name stuck.

Also throwing into the mix this month we have a Buffalo Trace Old Fashioned Copper 1993 Vintage. O.F.C refers to the Old Fashioned Copper Distillery where the Buffalo Trace distillery stands to this day. Buffalo have described the whiskey as having “a nose of dark cherry, honey and smoked oak.” How very tantalising and who doesn’t want a box with a revolving door!
