Bottled to mark the reopening of the distillery. Glen Keith was mothballed in 1999 and had been left idle by Pernod Ricard's Scotch whisky business, Chivas Brothers, since it acquired the site in 2001. But, strong global demand for Scotch in recent years has put pressure on stocks, leading to a series of investment programmes across the industry. Chivas spent in the region of £7 million to £8 million upgrading Glen Keith, which has a 50% higher malt distillation capacity than in its previous life.
Chivas Brothers have created a Distillery Reserve series and a special Cask Strength range uniquely available at distillery visitor centres. The expressions are bottled at cask strength to offer the enthusiast something different from the core range bottlings usually offered by Chivas Brothers: a special reward for fans prepared to make the pilgrimage.
