The Macallan distillery was founded in 1824 by Alexander Reid, a barley farmer and school teacher. Now owned by the Edrington Group, The Macallan prides itself on its Six Pillars, which include its curiously small stills, very narrow 'cut' of new make spirit and exceptional cask management. It is the most sought after whisky for collectors, regularly setting records at auctions all round the world.
A new £140 million subterranean distillery and visitor centre on the Easter Elchies estate was opened to the public in the summer of 2018 and has since won several awards for its architectural quality; with its exciting features including glass walls of vintage whiskies, a circular pod of copper pot stills, and a Boutique reflecting those in Dubai and Heathrow airports.
Harmony Collection Intense Arabica:
Inspired by the Ethiopian Arabica bean, Ethiopia is claimed to be the birthplace of coffee as the Arabica bean was the first species of coffee to be cultivated. The packaging has been expertly crafted to give new life to coffee bean husks, a by-product of coffee, that would otherwise have been discarded.
Macallan x Rhuigi Ritual Kit:
Made in collaboration with LA-based Filipino American fashion designer Rhuigi Villaseñor, the Harmony Ritual Kit is a limited edition set that intertwines the popular worlds of whisky and coffee with funky and innovative results. The kits are meant to be rotated 360 degrees, and have two sides—a whisky side and a coffee side. It also comes with custom designed glasses, cups and coffee beans and features a QR code that unlocks a video tutorial on the whisky and coffee pairing experience.
