Founded in 1765 by Richard Hennessy, an Irish officer in Louis XV's army, Hennessy is one of the most well-recognised cognac houses. Only decades after its establishment, the French spirit started to gain popularity in the United States and Britain's Prince of Wales (later to become King George IV) requested that the brand should create a "very superior old pale cognac"; hence the birth of the V.S.O.P. From being the drink of kings and tsars, Hennessy also went on Paul-Emile Victor's 1949 Arctic expedition! The special cognac is recognisable by the curves of its X.O. flacon carafe designed by Gerald de Geoffre de Chabrignac, nephew of Richard Hennessy himself.
This older style of Hennessy Cognac contained in a clear decanter.
