Gerry Tosh, now Global Marketing Manager for Highland Park, used to have the best job in the world. "Every now and again, they handed me the keys to the warehouses at Highland Park and said “Go on, Gerry, select a single cask.” I was asked to do this FIVE times. Then they came to their senses. My job’s still not bad but I miss being able to research long into the night, looking for the cask that I liked most...
The next few pages highlight the 5 single casks which were selected by me between 2005 and 2008."
The first Ambassador’s cask was classic Highland Park with a lovely buttery flavour. Keen to give you something different, the selection was down to a final four casks; released in June 2006 as a 10 year old, #1071 stood out because of its complexity. It was not as big and fruity as the classic Highland Park but it did show the characteristics in a different way. Gerry found it to be very light and floral with undertones of the fruit within. The sweetness was unusual, not overly sweet, but it was still there with the gentle smoky aftertaste – that seemed to keep the whisky alive within the glass and delivered fuller flavour.
